Annotation

I love--love--getting papers with solid annotation. That is, I hand students a text, they circle statements and write comments or questions. Recently, I gave my students a short selection from Kurt Vonnegut's Man without a Country.

Vonnegut: "If you actually are an educated, thinking person, you will not be welcome in Washington, D.C. I know a couple of bright seventh graders who would not be welcomed in Washington, D.C."

Allie circled this statement and wrote in the margin: "LOL!!! He trying to be cute."

I love it.
